Historical eventes

• 1568.Foundation of the brothehood of the disciplined of St. Sebastian.
  
• 1603. The feast of Our Lady of Odigitria was established to Easter Tuesday. In 1712 the feast was alternated between such day and Sunday in Albis. It was the feast by excellence of the town and lasted for eight days;all rich of extraordianry celebrations: illumination, fireworks, folk games in the square and horse racing,men,women and prests used to be hooded for devotion.
  
• 1615.During the quarrel with the brotherhood of  St. Paul, the of St. Sebastian conquest thes signs with the white and red colours.
  
• 1622.The 20th Jannuary, anniversary of the Martyr of St. Sebastian, becomes a precept day.
• 1644.The church of St. Sebastian becomes sacramental and Parish branch. 
• 1664. Our Lady of Odigitria comes elected Roial Patron of Palazzolo.
• 1693(9 e 11 jannuarry). An disastrous earthquake distroyed east of Sicily and caused the dead of 60.000 persons.In Palazzolo the victims were 700, churches and buildings collapsed. The statue of St.Sebastian overturned on the stones (undamaged).Such circumstance made the shout of a miracle and revived the devotion for the saint. The statue of Our Lady of Odigitria sustained considerable damage.

• 1712.he feast of Our Lady of Odigitria was trasfered to the 10th August.In the aforesaid feast there is (la maritanda con la dote di salme sei di frumento) the young lady who had six salme an ancient  sicilian measure of weat for her dowry in occasion of such feast, took place to that of the Annuncation institute in 1529 by Artale Alagona.In the 2nd half ofthe XIX  century it becomes "St. Sebastian' s fair".
• 1762. The spoils of St. Urbanocame transfered from Rome to Palazolo.
• 1827. The church of St. Sebastiano become parish. Mr. Phillip Piccione is elected first priest.
• 1828.Mons.Giuseppe Amorelli bishop of Syracusa consecrates  Basilica the church of  St. Sebastian.
• 1847The church of  St. Sebastian becomes parish.  Don Filippo Piccione vicomes elected the first parish priest.
• 1851. Affixing of 24 plaques marking the boundary between St. Sebastian' s church and Our Mother' s parish church. 

• 1872. Hurricane. In Palazzolo 32 people were killed and most of the churches were damaged. The front of St. Sebastian' s church was seriously damaget.
• 1884. For the feast of Our Lady of Odigitria (Sunday of the Albis) was introduced "u cummitu" (auction sale of gifts  offered by the believers) and the dressing of the (Madonnuzza) Our Lady. To this, a third of the profits of the sales of the gifts offered, were donated.
  1926."Triumphal car". This imposing car, artistically decorated and on which dominated the statue of the saint, was processed on the day of the feast together with the simulacrum of the  relic and the saint drawn by four couples of white oxen.

• 1977. "U cummitu" ( auction sale) was abolished and the feast of Our Lady of Odigitria was moved to the actual date, the last day of May
